OMPT-E full mock exam, generation 1: 40 questions in 120 minutes
The gentlest and widest set in the line. It spreads its questions across the whole topic range instead of piling onto the hard end, so a weak chapter shows itself in one sitting. Start here if the free mock felt rough.
Original questions, written by OMPT Practice. Official figures last verified 21 September 2026.
You type every answer and the grader checks it the way the real sitting does. There is no multiple choice to lean on.

What an OMPT-E generation 1 sitting is like
Generation 1 of the OMPT-E line is the widest and gentlest paper. Its 40 questions are spread evenly over the 12 chapters and most ask for one idea at a time, so a chapter you have not studied shows up as a cluster of wrong answers rather than a vague sense of struggling.
Sit it early, before you have read anything. The clock is the real 120 minutes, and the per-question pace of 3 minutes is the official one, so the time pressure is honest even though the questions are not yet. Type every answer in exact form; that habit is harder to build later than the maths is.
Chapter mix of OMPT-E generation 1
All four OMPT-E generations share the same chapter quota, so the statistics chapters get the same share on every paper. The step count is what climbs: a generation-1 probability item is a single fraction from a sample space, a generation-4 item is a conditional probability that needs a tree and an independence check.
Official weights are from the OMPT-E learning-assessment page at omptest.org. Each drill link opens a free topic page with its own ten-problem set; the full list is on the topics page.
How to enter answers on the OMPT-E paper
OMPT-E grades the answer field only. The exact-form rule bites hardest on the statistics chapters, where the calculator hands you a decimal and the grader wants the fraction.
Fractions and decimals
A fraction question wants a reduced fraction (7/16), a decimal question wants a decimal point, and swapping them costs the mark. The real calculator shows decimals only, so keep the fraction arithmetic on paper.
Roots and constants
Reduce the root and clear the denominator: 3+sqrt(5), 8pi, 2sqrt(5)/25. Numeric approximations of π, e and roots are wrong where exact form is asked.
Powers
x^2 and x² are read the same; so are cm^2 and cm². A negative exponent stays a power or becomes a fraction, never a decimal.
Multiple answers
List all solutions, comma-separated, in the order the question asks. A missing second root or angle is an incomplete answer, not a half-right one.
Intervals
Give inequalities as -5<=x<-2 or as [-5,-2). The bracket type carries meaning: round excludes the endpoint, square includes it.
Units and prefixes
Type the bare number; a unit the question named is stripped on grading. Do not add words such as metres or joules.
Working
On OMPT-D and OMPT-F the real paper scores your note field step by step; on B and G a note is optional; on A, C and E there is none. This paper grades the answer field only on every variant.
Invalid input
A half-filled template or an unclosed bracket on the real paper is flagged orange, stored and graded by hand. Here it is simply marked wrong, so check the syntax before you move on.
The OMPT-E uses the on-screen calculator omptest.org provides specifically for OMPT-E. What it can and cannot do is in our note on OMPT calculator rules.
Three worked OMPT-E examples in the answer form this paper grades
None of these three is in the paper; they show the exact-form answer the OMPT-E field expects and the entry error each question invites. Three more, from other chapters, are on the free OMPT-E mock page, and a longer set is in our sample questions walkthrough.
OMPT-E example 1 · Probability distributions
X follows a binomial distribution with n = 4 and p = 1/3. Find P(X = 2) as a fraction.
P(X = 2) = C(4, 2) × (1/3)² × (2/3)².
C(4, 2) = 6, (1/3)² = 1/9 and (2/3)² = 4/9.
6 × 1/9 × 4/9 = 24/81 = 8/27.
Answer: 8/27
Entry: Type 8/27. Leaving 24/81 unsimplified can be marked down, and 0.296 is the calculator's decimal, not the exact probability.
OMPT-E example 2 · Probability
P(A) = 0.5, P(B) = 0.4 and P(A and B) = 0.2. Find P(A | B) and state whether A and B are independent.
Conditional probability: P(A | B) = P(A and B)/P(B) = 0.2/0.4 = 1/2.
Independence test: P(A) × P(B) = 0.5 × 0.4 = 0.2, which equals P(A and B).
So A and B are independent, and P(A | B) = P(A), as it should be.
Answer: P(A | B) = 1/2; independent
Entry: Type 1/2 (or 0.5, since the data were given as decimals). Dividing by P(A) instead of P(B) gives 2/5, the standard reversal error.
OMPT-E example 3 · Random variables
X takes the values 1, 2 and 5 with probabilities 1/2, 1/3 and 1/6. Find Var(X).
Entry: Type 2. Squaring the mean before subtracting is where most points go: 6 − 2 = 4 is the answer the grader sees from candidates who forgot to square.
How OMPT-E generation 1 compares with the official OMPT-E
Copied from the official OMPT-E: 40 questions, 120 minutes, chapter order, exact-form typed answers, no negative marking and no formula sheet. Not copied: omptest.org's OMPT-E calculator (use your own; the real one shows decimals only), the Sowiso engine, ProctorU supervision, randomised values and the manual check. omptest.org places the real OMPT-E at the level of its practice material; our generation-4 OMPT-E paper is written there.

What the OMPT-E score report shows after you submit
Submit and the OMPT-E paper is graded instantly, 40 answers with worked solutions, and the twelve chapters ranked weakest first. On OMPT-E that ranking usually splits cleanly into algebra and statistics, which need different study plans. The paper stays in your account for re-sitting, with earlier scores kept. Prices include VAT. Refunds within 14 days of purchase, by email, to the original payment method.
The refund and access wording in full is on the terms page. Bundles that pair this paper with another generation are on the plans page.
The ladder
Other OMPT-E generations
Generations climb toward the real sitting. Work them in order; each OMPT-E set uses entirely different questions.
No. The OMPT-E generation 1 paper is original, written to the twelve-chapter OMPT-E syllabus at omptest.org, from numbers through the binomial and normal distributions. Real OMPT-E questions are not published.
›Can I retake OMPT-E generation 1?
Yes. After a single purchase of €39.99 the OMPT-E generation 1 paper stays in your account and can be re-sat under the 120-minute clock. The 40 questions are fixed; a retake checks fixes, generation 2 gives new questions.
›Does the OMPT-E paper work on a phone?
The OMPT-E paper runs on a phone, but probability answers such as 5/36 and 8/27 are slow to type on a phone keyboard, and the real OMPT-E is taken on a computer with a webcam under the Guardian browser. Sit at least one paper on a laptop.
›How is the OMPT-E paper graded?
The OMPT-E paper is graded instantly against accepted exact-form answers, with fractions checked against their decimals only when both sides are plain numbers. The real OMPT-E is checked by software and then by omptest.org's graders within eight business days.
›What if an OMPT-E question is wrong?
Report it with the button under the OMPT-E question. Reports are checked against the script that re-derives each generated answer, the live paper is corrected, and you get a reply. The curated statistics questions were re-derived by hand before release.
›Is OMPT-E generation 1 at real-test difficulty?
No. OMPT-E generation 1 is the foundation tier, 3 rungs below generation 4, which is written at the level omptest.org describes for the real OMPT-E. This one shows whether the gap is algebra or statistics.
›How long is the OMPT-E paper available?
A purchased OMPT-E paper does not expire. omptest.org's OMPT-E products expire with the class year at the end of September, so a paper bought here in spring still works for an autumn retake.
Booking, proctoring and retake questions are answered on the help page; what the free sets cover for every variant is on the free OMPT practice test page.
