What this OMPT-E mock covers

The four free OMPT-E questions come from the paper's second half, where the statistics lives: one on functions, then descriptive statistics, probability and probability distributions. Those three statistics chapters plus combinatorics and random variables are half the official OMPT-E score, and they are the material most candidates meet for the first time.

How to enter answers on the OMPT-E

OMPT-E grades the final answer only, and it has its own on-screen calculator, separate from the one the other business variants use. The exact-form rule is where OMPT-E candidates lose the most: a probability from dice or cards is a fraction, and the calculator will show you a decimal that is marked down.

Exact form
Unless the question asks for a decimal, the answer is a fraction, a root or a power. omptest.org's help centre says a decimal where exact form is expected can lose points, and the on-screen calculator does not convert decimals back.
Fractions
Type a slash with no spaces and reduce it: 23/14, not 1.64 and not 46/28. A mixed number is not expected.
Roots
Simplify the radicand and rationalise a denominator: 2√13 rather than √52, 2√5/25 rather than 2/(5√5). Type sqrt(13) or the √ symbol; both are read.
Powers and constants
Use the caret: x^2, 2^(x-1). Keep π and e as symbols (pi, e), never as 3.14 or 2.72.
Several solutions
Give every solution the interval allows, separated by commas, smallest first when the question says so. One of two solutions is marked incomplete.
Intervals and inequalities
Write the two-sided inequality or the interval: -1<x<4 or (-1,4). Round brackets exclude the endpoint, square brackets include it.
Decimal point
When a decimal is asked for, use a point, not a comma, and give the precision the question states.
No units
Type the number; the field knows the unit from the question. 20 and 20 m both pass here; 20 metres does not.
Brackets
Close every bracket. An unclosed bracket or a doubled operator is flagged orange on the real paper and goes to manual grading, where the grader guesses at your intent.

The calculator rules are covered in detail in our note on OMPT calculator rules; the OMPT-E uses the on-screen calculator omptest.org provides specifically for OMPT-E.

What the OMPT-E score panel shows

The panel scores four questions, gives a percentage and ranks the four chapters weakest first. Three minutes a question is the official OMPT-E pace, slower than OMPT-A, but probability questions eat time in the reading, so the timer on this page is a fair test. The chapter list will tell you whether your gap is algebra or statistics; on OMPT-E those need different plans.

Free OMPT-E mock vs the official mock vs our full papers

omptest.org's OMPT-E mock (€90) uses the real OMPT-E calculator and the real graders. Our free mock checks pace and the fraction habit. The generation papers give the full 40 questions and 120 minutes, instantly graded.

Three worked OMPT-E examples in exact-answer form

These three are not in the mock above; they show the answer form the OMPT-E field expects and the entry mistake each question invites. More are worked through in our sample questions walkthrough.

  1. OMPT-E example 1 · Probability

Two fair dice are rolled. What is the probability that the numbers add up to 8?

    1. There are 6 × 6 = 36 equally likely outcomes.
    2. The pairs that sum to 8: (2,6), (3,5), (4,4), (5,3), (6,2). That is 5 outcomes.
    3. P = 5/36.

    Answer: 5/36

Entry: Type 5/36. Counting (4,4) twice gives 6/36, and the decimal 0.139 is marked down because the question asks for a probability from a finite sample space, which is exact.

  2. OMPT-E example 2 · Descriptive statistics

The values 4, 7, 7, 9, 13 have mean 8. A sixth value is added and the mean becomes 9. What is the sixth value?

    1. The five values total 5 × 8 = 40.
    2. Six values with mean 9 total 54.
    3. The sixth value is 54 − 40 = 14.

    Answer: 14

Entry: Type 14. Working from the median (7) instead of the total is the usual wrong turn; the mean is the only average that can be recovered from a sum.

  3. OMPT-E example 3 · Combinatorics

How many different committees of 3 people can be chosen from 8?

    1. Order does not matter inside a committee, so this is a combination: C(8, 3).
    2. C(8, 3) = 8!/(3! × 5!) = (8 × 7 × 6)/(3 × 2 × 1).
    3. 336/6 = 56.

    Answer: 56

Entry: Type 56. Using the permutation 8 × 7 × 6 = 336 counts each committee six times over; the word committee is the signal that order is irrelevant.

After you score the OMPT-E mock

Four correct: sit generation 1 of the OMPT-E line under the full two hours. Forty questions at three minutes each is a test of concentration as much as maths.

Two or three correct: check whether the misses are statistics. The probability basics drill and the random variables drill are the two OMPT-E topics with the steepest first-time learning curve; the descriptive statistics drill is the quickest win.

One or none: if algebra is on the list, the quadratic equations drill comes first. If only statistics is, start with counting and combinatorics, because probability builds on it.

Drills by topic are on the topics page; the OMPT-E generation papers start at generation 1, which carries the 36 questions you have not seen.

Free OMPT-E mock FAQ

Is the OMPT-E mock free?

The OMPT-E mock is free, needs no account and can be sat repeatedly. It serves the four free preview questions of our generation-1 OMPT-E paper, one tenth of the 40-question sitting. That is the full free exposure for OMPT-E.

Is this the real OMPT-E test?

No. The real OMPT-E is 40 typed-answer questions in 120 minutes under ProctorU supervision, graded by omptest.org with its statistics calculator on screen. This page copies the three-minute pace, the exact-form answer field and the chapter order using original questions.

How long is the OMPT-E mock?

The free OMPT-E mock allows 12 minutes for four questions, the official three minutes each. The timer starts when you open the first question and does not pause, like the real clock after Start.

Can I retake the free OMPT-E mock?

Yes, the OMPT-E mock has no retake limit, but its four questions do not change. Use a retake to confirm a fix. The generation-1 OMPT-E paper gives 36 further questions across all twelve chapters.

Is the mock harder than the real OMPT-E?

The free OMPT-E mock is taken from the harder half of our generation-1 paper, the gentlest of four. omptest.org says the real OMPT-E is at the level of its practice material; our generation-4 OMPT-E paper is written there. Score well here and the next test is a full paper.

What does the OMPT-E score report show?

The OMPT-E score panel shows your result out of four, the percentage, the chapters ranked weakest first, and a worked solution for each question. The official certificate from omptest.org gives a score per topic after the real test; the panel is a free preview of that layout.

Does the OMPT-E have a statistics calculator?

The real OMPT-E has its own on-screen calculator, one of three types omptest.org provides and separate from the one used for OMPT-A, B, C and F. It shows decimals only and does not convert to fractions, so a probability question still needs a fraction typed by you.
