University of Groningen OMPT requirements: programmes, scores, deadlines

Groningen publishes one central certificates page: OMPT-A at 60% for the Economics and Business bachelors and all Spatial Sciences bachelors, OMPT-B at 60% for Econometrics, and OMPT-D at 60% with 55% per category across the Faculty of Science and Engineering. Two attempts, results land in the Progress Portal.

The University of Groningen publishes one central page of accepted certificates to lift a deficiency, and it settles most questions in one table. The Faculty of Economics and Business takes OMPT-A at 60% for Business Administration, International Business and Economics and Business Economics, and OMPT-B at 60% for Econometrics and Operations Research, where the OMPT is accepted only from non-Dutch applicants. The Faculty of Spatial Sciences takes OMPT-A at 60% across all its bachelors. The Faculty of Science and Engineering takes OMPT-D at 60% for every bachelor, with a floor of 55% in each category.

There is a second FSE number to know. The Dutch-language Colloquium Doctum page for applicants aged 21 or over without an admission diploma asks for OMPT-D at 65% and rejects any certificate with a 0% category. Both pages are official and both were updated in September 2026; the difference is the route, not a contradiction. An international applicant with a foreign diploma works to the 60% line; a Dutch applicant on the 21+ route works to 65%.

Two attempts per calendar year apply throughout (three for FEB pre-master students), and Groningen's 60% business bar is one of the friendlier ones among Dutch research universities. Maastricht and Utrecht want 75% for comparable degrees.

OMPT-A, OMPT-B or OMPT-D for Groningen: what each bar means

Sixty percent on the A is 32 of 52 questions in two hours on a syllabus that stops at differentiation, and for a student with school algebra it is four to six weeks of steady revision. Sixty percent on the B adds trigonometry and integration across 64 questions in 150 minutes; the is OMPT-B harder than A note quantifies the gap. Sixty percent on the D, with 55% in every category, is a different task again: 21 long-form questions over three hours across the widest syllabus of any variant, with no partial credit, and the per-category floor means you cannot skip geometry or integration and make it up elsewhere.

If you are on the science route, respect the D. With two attempts counted, a cold first sitting is a real risk; run a full timed mock from the OMPT-D page before booking and read the OMPT-D survival guide. Note the letter for Econometrics is the B, not the D that most econometrics programmes elsewhere demand, which is good news for Groningen applicants.

What Groningen accepts instead of the OMPT

The FEB business bachelors have the widest set: FEB's own Mathematics Entrance Exam (on campus only, €150, minimum 5.5, with a preparatory course that ends in it), CCVX or Boswell-Beta Mathematics A at 5.5 (Boswell online is accepted), AP Calculus AB or BC at 3 to 5, A-level Mathematics, or IB Analysis and Approaches SL/HL or Applications and Interpretation HL at grade 4. Econometrics is narrower: CCVX Mathematics B at 5.5, AP Calculus, A-level Mathematics A2 or IB AA HL at 4; Boswell-Beta is not listed there and the OMPT-B is only for non-Dutch applicants.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering accepts CCVX or Boswell-Beta Mathematics B at 5.5 (Mathematics A or B for Biology, Artificial Intelligence and Pharmacy), AP Calculus, A-level Mathematics A2 (AS also for Biology, AI and Pharmacy) and IB AA HL (AA SL or AI HL also for the Biology group). SAT and ACT do not appear on the certificates page at all. Groningen's page ends with a line worth respecting: no rights can be derived from the information, so the linked source is the final word.

Groningen OMPT deadlines and how to submit the certificate

For the 2027 intake the FEB programme pages give 1 May 2027 for Econometrics, Economics and Business Economics and Business Administration, for Dutch, EU and non-EU applicants alike. International Business is numerus fixus with 550 places and closes on 15 January 2027 for everyone. Groningen's non-Dutch-qualification page adds an early-bird date of 28 February and the document-completion deadlines that actually bind the OMPT: 1 July for non-EU applicants, 15 July for EU numerus fixus admits, 20 August for EU regular admits, with tuition due by 31 August. The Faculty of Science and Engineering advises anyone who needs a deficiency test to apply in Studielink between 1 October and 1 November.

Submission is an upload in the Progress Portal, whose credentials arrive after your Studielink registration; if a deficiency certificate cannot be verified online, Groningen asks for a physical certified copy. Register at omptest.org with the University of Groningen selected. Working back from 1 July with about eight business days of grading, a non-EU applicant should sit by mid-June, and by May with a retake in hand. Groningen states no validity period for the OMPT, so treat the current cycle as the safe assumption.

Tuition, and what to do if you fail the OMPT for Groningen

Tuition for 2026-27 on the FEB programmes is €2,694 for EU/EEA students and €14,000 for non-EU/EEA students, plus a €100 application fee for non-Dutch qualifications. Econometrics, Economics and Business Economics and International Business are English-taught, 180 EC programmes; Business Administration runs in Dutch and English with a binding study advice of 45 EC.

Two attempts per year is the cap, and the calendar decides whether the second is usable. If the first result falls short, read the per-topic breakdown, fix the named chapters and rebook only when a timed mock clears your bar with margin.   • CCVX or Boswell-Beta

    Maths A at 5.5 for the FEB business bachelors; Maths B at 5.5 for Econometrics (CCVX only) and most FSE programmes; Maths A or B for Biology, AI and Pharmacy. Boswell-Beta online is accepted.

  • IB Mathematics
