Maastricht University OMPT requirements: programmes, scores, deadlines

Maastricht's School of Business and Economics benchmarks 75% on the OMPT (A for International Business and Economics and Business Economics, B for Econometrics, Business Analytics and Business Engineering), with 70 to 74% eligible for review and three attempts. The Faculty of Science and Engineering takes OMPT-D at 60% with two attempts for Data Science and AI and Computer Science, and OMPT-B 70% or OMPT-D 60% for Circular Engineering and Sustainable Bioscience.

Maastricht University's School of Business and Economics sets the number everyone quotes: a 75% benchmark on the OMPT for its bachelors, the highest widely cited OMPT bar in the Netherlands. The SBE page names two exams, the OMPT-A for International Business and Economics and Business Economics and the OMPT-B for Econometrics and Operations Research, Business Analytics and Business Engineering, and then states one rule for the test: the benchmark for a pass is 75%, a score between 70 and 74% lets you contact the course coordinators to ask about a possible exemption, and you have three attempts. The page does not print a separate OMPT-B figure, so the literal reading is 75% for all five; confirm the B number with the coordinator before you book.

Across town, the Faculty of Science and Engineering runs a different arrangement. The Department of Advanced Computing Sciences asks for OMPT-D at 60% with a maximum of two attempts for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and for Computer Science, with its own on-site entrance exam in June as the alternative. Two newer FSE bachelors, Circular Engineering in Maastricht and Sustainable Bioscience in Venlo, accept OMPT-B at 70% or OMPT-D at 60%.

One row from older lists is missing on purpose: Fiscal Economics does not appear on the SBE mathematics page or in its list of preparation courses, and its own page was unreachable when checked, so it is not on the table below. If you are applying to it, ask SBE admissions directly.

Preparing for Maastricht's 75%: OMPT-A and OMPT-B

For the 75% business route my practice benchmark is 85% on a timed mock before booking. The gap between a practice 78 and a real-day 73 is exactly the kind that the individual review was invented for, and you do not want to depend on it. On the A that is at most thirteen wrong out of 52 in two hours, with no partial credit; the margin comes from routine algebra running on rails. On the B it is the same discipline over 64 questions in 150 minutes with trigonometry and integration added, which is why the is OMPT-B harder than A note matters for the econometrics applicants.

Maastricht itself gives useful preparation advice on the SBE page: a trial-test score of 80% or more and 95% progress in the SOWISO preparation course (€35 to €40, 60 to 100 hours) before booking the €240 exam. That matches my own rule closely. The OMPT-A and OMPT-B pages each have a syllabus, a four-week plan and a free timed mock.

OMPT-D at 60% for Data Science and AI and Computer Science

Sixty percent on the D is a different task from 60% on the A, even though the number matches. The D runs 21 long-form questions over three hours across the widest syllabus of any variant, geometry and integration included; 60% means securing full credit on roughly thirteen of them, and the OMPT's all-or-nothing marking makes half-finished solutions worthless. With only two attempts counted, a cold first sitting is a real risk, so run a full timed mock from the OMPT-D page first and read the OMPT-D survival guide.

DACS is unusually generous with alternatives: its own on-site entrance exam in Maastricht in June 2027 (email dacs-admissions@maastrichtuniversity.nl), the Boswell-Beta Maths B course and test with a 7 advised, the CCVX Maths B exam in Utrecht (listed on the Computer Science page), NHA or LOI VWO Maths B for Dutch speakers, a vwo-deelcertificaat, or the Colloquium Doctum for applicants aged 21 or over. Circular Engineering and Sustainable Bioscience applicants with a B or D choice should sit the D only if they already need it elsewhere; 70% on the B is the gentler route for the same admission.

Maastricht OMPT deadlines and how to submit the certificate

For the 2027-28 pages (DSAI, Computer Science, Business Analytics, Business Engineering, Econometrics, Circular Engineering, Sustainable Bioscience) Studielink opens on 1 October 2026; non-EU/EEA applicants must apply and complete all admission tasks by 1 April 2027 and EU/EEA/Swiss applicants by 1 May 2027; the visa file is due by 30 June; and all enrolment tasks, including an EU applicant's extra maths test result, close on 31 August 2027. DSAI and Computer Science add a maths-syllabus deadline for the sufficiency check of 1 May (non-EU) or 1 June (EU). International Business is numerus fixus and closed on 15 January in the 2026 cycle, with the ranking published 15 April; Economics and Business Economics is selective, with an International Classroom essay due early. Both 2027-28 pages were not yet live when this page was checked.

The SBE page adds the date that matters most for its applicants: write the exam no later than 15 August, because the deficiency has to be cleared before the first year starts. When the certificate arrives, upload it to the MyApplication portal under 'Prove your proficiency in mathematics'; SBE's FAQ says the course coordinator can also issue a certificate to admissions, but uploading it yourself is faster. DACS applicants submit the extra maths test result as a portal task by their deadline. Non-EU applicants should note that the pages list the extra-maths deadline only for EU applicants and tell visa applicants to reconsider applying unless they are sure all deficiencies will be remedied before 1 July.

Tuition, and what to do if you fail the OMPT for Maastricht

Tuition for 2026-27 is €2,694 statutory across the board. The institutional fee is €13,200 for International Business, Economics and Business Economics, Econometrics and Business Analytics, and €18,400 for Data Science and AI, Computer Science, Business Engineering, Circular Engineering and Sustainable Bioscience. Applicants with a non-EU/EEA curriculum pay a handling fee. All the SBE bachelors are three-year, full-time BSc programmes in Maastricht; Sustainable Bioscience is in Venlo. SAT and ACT are not listed as a maths alternative anywhere at Maastricht, and Maastricht publishes no validity period for the OMPT.

On the SBE route, three attempts and the 70 to 74% review give more room than most Dutch universities, but the 15 August wall is hard. If your first attempt lands in the low 70s, email the course coordinator about the exemption while you prepare a second sitting; if it lands lower, read the per-topic breakdown and rebook only when a timed mock clears 85%. If the OMPT route is exhausted, CCVX and Boswell-Beta remain open but require presence in the Netherlands.
