OMPT-A full mock exam, generation 2: 52 questions in 120 minutes
A wide pass over the syllabus at a steady middle difficulty. This is the set that tells you which chapters leak points; work it early, then chase the leaks on the topic pages before moving up the ladder.
Original questions, written by OMPT Practice. Official figures last verified 21 September 2026.
You type every answer and the grader checks it the way the real sitting does. There is no multiple choice to lean on.

What an OMPT-A generation 2 sitting is like
Generation 2 keeps the even chapter spread of generation 1 but asks for two ideas per question instead of one: a quadratic that needs completing the square before it can be read, a derivative that needs a rewrite into powers first. The 52 questions and 120 minutes are unchanged.
This is the paper for the middle of your preparation, after the topic drills and before the exam-level sets. A score that drops from generation 1 to generation 2 is normal; a chapter that drops by more than the others is the chapter to go back to. The worked solutions show the shortest route, usually one step shorter than the one candidates take.
Chapter mix of OMPT-A generation 2
Every OMPT-A generation carries the same chapter quota, because the real paper's chapter order does not change between sittings. What climbs with the generation is the step count inside each question: a generation-1 differentiation item asks for one rule, a generation-4 item chains the quotient rule into a tangent equation.
Official weights are from the OMPT-A learning-assessment page at omptest.org. Each drill link opens a free topic page with its own ten-problem set; the full list is on the topics page.
How to enter answers on the OMPT-A paper
OMPT-A has no note field. The typed answer is all the grader sees, on the real paper and on this one, so the entry form decides marks as often as the maths does.
Fractions and decimals
A fraction question wants a reduced fraction (7/16), a decimal question wants a decimal point, and swapping them costs the mark. The real calculator shows decimals only, so keep the fraction arithmetic on paper.
Roots and constants
Reduce the root and clear the denominator: 3+sqrt(5), 8pi, 2sqrt(5)/25. Numeric approximations of π, e and roots are wrong where exact form is asked.
Powers
x^2 and x² are read the same; so are cm^2 and cm². A negative exponent stays a power or becomes a fraction, never a decimal.
Multiple answers
List all solutions, comma-separated, in the order the question asks. A missing second root or angle is an incomplete answer, not a half-right one.
Intervals
Give inequalities as -5<=x<-2 or as [-5,-2). The bracket type carries meaning: round excludes the endpoint, square includes it.
Units and prefixes
Type the bare number; a unit the question named is stripped on grading. Do not add words such as metres or joules.
Working
On OMPT-D and OMPT-F the real paper scores your note field step by step; on B and G a note is optional; on A, C and E there is none. This paper grades the answer field only on every variant.
Invalid input
A half-filled template or an unclosed bracket on the real paper is flagged orange, stored and graded by hand. Here it is simply marked wrong, so check the syntax before you move on.
The OMPT-A uses the basic on-screen calculator shared by OMPT-A, B, C and F. What it can and cannot do is in our note on OMPT calculator rules.
Three worked OMPT-A examples in the answer form this paper grades
None of these three is in the paper; they show the exact-form answer the OMPT-A field expects and the entry error each question invites. Three more, from other chapters, are on the free OMPT-A mock page, and a longer set is in our sample questions walkthrough.
OMPT-A example 1 · Exponential functions and logarithms
Solve log₂(x) + log₂(x − 2) = 3.
Combine with the product rule: log₂(x(x − 2)) = 3, so x(x − 2) = 2³ = 8.
x² − 2x − 8 = 0 factors as (x − 4)(x + 2) = 0, giving x = 4 or x = −2.
Both logarithms need a positive argument, so x − 2 > 0 and x = −2 is rejected.
Answer: 4
Entry: Enter 4 only. Typing −2, 4 is marked wrong: the domain check is part of the question, and the grader does not give half credit on OMPT-A.
OMPT-A example 2 · Systems of linear equations
Solve the system 3x + 2y = 7 and 5x − 4y = 19. Give the pair (x, y).
Double the first equation so the y-terms cancel: 6x + 4y = 14.
Add to the second: 11x = 33, so x = 3.
Substitute back: 9 + 2y = 7, so y = −1. Check in the second equation: 15 + 4 = 19.
Answer: (3, −1)
Entry: If the field asks for a pair, type (3,-1) in that order. Reporting x = 3 alone, or swapping the coordinates, scores zero on this item.
OMPT-A example 3 · Differentiation
f(x) = (2x − 1)/(x + 3). Find the gradient of f at x = 1 as an exact fraction.
The numerator simplifies: 2x + 6 − 2x + 1 = 7, so f′(x) = 7/(x + 3)².
At x = 1: 7/16.
Answer: 7/16
Entry: Type 7/16. Writing 0.4375 loses the mark when exact form is asked for, and forgetting to square the denominator gives 7/4, the single most common error on this rule.
How OMPT-A generation 2 compares with the official OMPT-A
What this paper copies from the official OMPT-A: the 52-question count, the 120-minute clock, chapter order, typed answers checked for exact form and no negative marking. What it cannot copy: omptest.org's Sowiso answer engine, which recognises algebraically equivalent forms our string matcher does not; ProctorU supervision; randomised values on each sitting; and the manual check by omptest.org's mathematicians. omptest.org says the real OMPT-A is similar in difficulty to its practice material, and our generation-4 paper is written to that level.

What the OMPT-A score report shows after you submit
The OMPT-A paper is graded the moment you submit, question by question, with the worked solution under every item including the ones you got right. The report lists the eight chapters weakest first. Your purchase stays in your account and the paper can be re-sat under the clock; the earlier score stays in the history. Prices include VAT. If the paper is not what you expected, email us within 14 days for a refund to the original payment method.
The refund and access wording in full is on the terms page. Bundles that pair this paper with another generation are on the plans page.
The ladder
Other OMPT-A generations
Generations climb toward the real sitting. Work them in order; each OMPT-A set uses entirely different questions.
›Are the OMPT-A generation 2 questions real OMPT questions?
No. Every question in the OMPT-A generation 2 paper is original, written to the chapter list and answer style of the OMPT-A syllabus at omptest.org. Real OMPT items are not published, and any site claiming to sell them is either wrong or breaking omptest.org's rules.
›Can I retake the OMPT-A generation 2 paper?
Yes. The OMPT-A generation 2 paper stays in your account after one purchase of €39.99 and can be re-sat under the 120-minute clock. The questions are fixed, so a second sitting measures whether you fixed the errors rather than how you would score on a new paper.
›Does the OMPT-A paper work on a phone?
The OMPT-A paper runs in any modern browser, phone included, but I would sit it on a laptop. The real OMPT-A must be taken on a computer with a webcam under the Guardian browser, and typing exact-form answers such as 3+sqrt(5) is slower on a phone keyboard.
›How is the OMPT-A generation 2 paper graded?
The OMPT-A paper is graded instantly against accepted exact-form answers, with the same normaliser as the free mock: it forgives spacing, a leading x =, sqrt or √, but never a decimal where a fraction was asked. The real OMPT-A is checked by software and then by omptest.org's graders within eight business days.
›What if I find an error in an OMPT-A question?
Every OMPT-A question has a report button under it. Errors are checked against the script that re-derives each answer, corrected on the live paper, and the reporter gets a reply. Every curated answer was re-derived by hand before publication, but 52 questions per paper leaves room for a typo.
›Is OMPT-A generation 2 harder than the real test?
No. OMPT-A generation 2 is the broad tier, 2 rungs below our generation 4, which is the paper written at the level omptest.org describes for the real OMPT-A. Use this one to find the leaking chapter, not to predict the score.
›How long is access to the OMPT-A paper?
Access to a purchased OMPT-A paper does not expire. omptest.org's own products expire with the class year at the end of September; ours do not, so a paper bought in spring is still there for a retake in the next admission round.
Booking, proctoring and retake questions are answered on the help page; what the free sets cover for every variant is on the free OMPT practice test page.
