University College Absalon OMPT requirements: programmes, scores, deadlines

Absalon accepts OMPT-B or D for its English-taught Bachelor of Engineering in Biotechnology under its individual competence assessment, without publishing a minimum. Its FAQ says the B and D are accepted without individual assessment; everything else is judged case by case.

University College Absalon accepts the OMPT for its English-taught Bachelor of Engineering in Biotechnology at Campus Kalundborg in Denmark's Region Zealand, and it is flexible about the letter: either OMPT-B or OMPT-D counts. The unusual part is what is missing. The admission page states no minimum score; it says a passed test can be included in the assessment of your overall maths qualifications when you apply through the individual competence assessment (ICA). Absalon's FAQ goes one step further and says the OMPT B and D are accepted without individual assessment, while all other maths tests are assessed case by case.

The route exists for applicants who lack Mathematics at Danish A-level (about 375 hours), which is the standard requirement alongside Physics B or Geoscience A, Chemistry B or Biotechnology A, and English B. Every applicant with international qualifications, IB included, is a quota 2 applicant and attends an admission interview; the OMPT is part of that file, not a substitute for it.

The deadline is fixed and early: 15 March at 12:00 noon on optagelse.dk for all quota 2 and international applicants, with the ICA on the same date and applications opening on 1 February. No separate OMPT date exists, so the certificate is simply part of the documentation due by 15 March.

What score to aim for when Absalon publishes no minimum

No published minimum is not the same as no standard. My working assumption for ICA-style routes is that a score in the 60s reads as competent and anything below 55% invites questions, so prepare as if a 60% bar existed and aim for 70% on a timed mock. Because the assessment is individual, an early email to Absalon admissions is worth more here than anywhere else in this table: ask what score range they consider sufficient for the current intake and whether the rest of your file changes that answer, then aim your practice ten points above whatever they tell you.

Between the two accepted variants, sit the B. It is 64 quicker questions in 150 minutes against the D's 21 three-hour long-form problems, the syllabus is narrower, and nothing on Absalon's pages rewards the harder choice. The OMPT-B page has the syllabus and a free timed mock; if you already hold a D result for another university, it counts equally here.

What Absalon accepts instead of the OMPT

The standard route is Mathematics at Danish A-level, documented with a school-stamped verification form alongside the physics, chemistry and English requirements. Supplementary school-recognised courses, online courses or parts of higher education can fill a gap and are assessed individually under the ICA. Other maths tests are also assessed individually; only the OMPT-B and OMPT-D are accepted without that review. Absalon publishes no IB, A-level, SAT or AP thresholds for maths, so an applicant with one of those qualifications should ask admissions how it will be read rather than assuming.

English is a separate requirement: TOEFL 4.5 on the new scale (94 on the old) or IELTS 6.5, no more than two years old. Absalon's newer Bachelor of Engineering in Robot Systems on the same campus requires Maths A-level and Physics B but does not mention the OMPT, so the test is a Biotechnology-only route at Absalon for now.

Absalon OMPT deadlines and how to submit the certificate

Applications open on 1 February and close for quota 2, ICA and all international-qualification applicants on 15 March at 12:00 noon, through optagelse.dk. For the ICA you choose 'No entry qualifying exam' and attach a CV, a competence description and your documentation, which is where the OMPT certificate goes. Exams sat after 15 March can be documented until 5 July at noon, the quota 1 deadline and the last date to document exams, or with preliminary results before the 1 September study start. Answers arrive by the end of July.

Working back from 15 March with about eight business days of grading, sit the OMPT by the end of February; if you want a second attempt in hand, sit the first in January. Absalon states no attempt cap and no validity period for the OMPT, so the test provider's own rules apply and the calendar is the constraint.

Tuition, and what to do if the ICA is rejected

EU/EEA students pay no tuition and may qualify for Danish state support. Non-EU students pay DKK 81,578 per semester (about €10,900) for semesters one to five and seven, and DKK 10,834 for the internship semester six, a total of DKK 500,303 over the seven-semester programme; from the September 2026 intake the first two semesters are paid in advance, and there is a DKK 3,750 application deposit. Sixty-five percent of places go to quota 1 and 35% to quota 2.

If your ICA is rejected, Absalon sends guidelines on what to do to improve your chances of being judged eligible, which usually means a stronger maths file. A higher OMPT score is the most direct way to strengthen it: read the per-topic breakdown, fix the named chapters, and sit again, documenting the new result by 5 July if the first application is still live.
