LUT University OMPT requirements: programmes, scores, deadlines
LUT holds every bachelor in its international rolling admission to the same 60% and picks the variant by field: G for chemical engineering, D for computational science, B or D for the engineering group, F for the business school. SAT or ACT work instead, two attempts are counted, and a result is valid for one year.
LUT University in Lappeenranta and Lahti holds every bachelor in its international rolling admission to the same 60% and lets the variant do the differentiating. Chemical and Process Engineering sits OMPT-G, the variant with physics and chemistry chapters built in. Computational Science and Artificial Intelligence takes OMPT-D, and the page marks the B as not applicable there. The broad engineering group (Electrical, Energy, Environmental, Mechanical, Technology and Engineering Science in Lappeenranta; Civil, Industrial Engineering and Management and the Software and Systems Engineering double degree in Lahti) accepts either B or D. The business school's Digital Business and Sustainable International Business take OMPT-F.
The OMPT is one of two routes into this admission, not a universal gate. Applicants whose school grades clear LUT's GPA route (overall 80% and standard maths 70% for business; overall 70%, advanced maths 80% and a science 80% for technology, with 90% maths for Computational Science and AI) do not need any test. Everyone else needs the OMPT, the SAT or the ACT, and for Afghan qualifications a standardised test is mandatory regardless of grades.
Three rules from LUT's 2026 pages that were easy to miss: a maximum of two attempts, with a third not accepted; every accepted test result is valid for one year from the test date; and the result must exist when you apply, because the rolling window (1 September 2026 to 30 April 2027 for autumn 2027) admits eligible applicants without competition until the programme fills.

OMPT-B or OMPT-D for LUT's engineering programmes: take the B
Where LUT gives you a B-or-D choice, take the B. Both clear the same 60% bar, but the D's syllabus is more than a third larger, including geometry chapters the B skips, and the B's 64-question format is more forgiving of a single bad question than the D's 21 long problems, where one abandoned solution costs nearly five percent. The only reason to prefer the D is if another university on your list demands it anyway; a single D sitting can then serve both.
For the G-track applicants to Chemical and Process Engineering, budget real, separate time for the mechanics and chemistry chapters; they are not decoration, and a maths-only revision plan leaves a fifth of the paper unprepared. Computational Science and AI applicants have no choice and should start with the OMPT-D survival guide. Business applicants sit the F, which is OMPT-A material delivered as 21 long-form problems; the OMPT-F page sets out the format and has a free timed mock.
What LUT accepts instead of the OMPT
The SAT works everywhere at LUT as a fallback, which is rare in this table: 1300 total with at least 600 in Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 700 in Math, taken after 1 January 2025 and sent under College Board code 7603. It also waives the English test. The ACT is accepted at 28 composite with English plus Reading of 49 and Math of 30, code 8366. If you already hold either score, compare it against those lines before spending €240 to €270 on an OMPT sitting.
IB, A-level, European Baccalaureate and French Baccalaureate holders are assessed on their own LUT pages against the GPA route rather than through a test substitution table, so check your qualification's page first. Engineering applicants on the GPA route must also upload the official maths curriculum covering the sixteen topics LUT lists, and the admission committee reserves the right to reject an application with notable deficiencies in advanced maths even where the numbers are met.
LUT OMPT deadlines and how to submit the result
The international rolling admission for autumn 2027 opened on 1 September 2026 and closes on 30 April 2027 at 23:59 (UTC+3), unless the programme fills earlier. One programme per application, a non-EU application fee, and a decision within a month of a complete application. Because the OMPT result must exist when you apply, the sequence is test first, application second: register at omptest.org selecting LUT University and your programme, book at least three days ahead, and allow up to eight business days for grading (LUT quotes five working days).
Applications go through Studyinfo and LUT communicates through it; the certificate is uploaded with the other documents. After a Certificate of Admission you have three weeks to confirm and pay. Conditionally admitted applicants must graduate by 31 August 2027 and send final documents by then, translations by 6 September. Because admission is first-come while places last, an application in the autumn is worth more than the same application in April.
Tuition, and what to do if you fail the OMPT for LUT
Non-EU/EEA tuition for 2026-27 is €12,000 a year. An early-bird discount of €2,000 applies to the first year for six named programmes (Chemical and Process Engineering, Technology and Engineering Science, Computational Engineering, Digital Business, Sustainable International Business, Industrial Engineering and Management) if €10,000 is paid within 21 days. Scholarships for the 2027 intake start in year two: €3,000 after 60 ECTS, another €3,000 after 120 ECTS, and €9,000 for the first master's year for continuing students. EU/EEA students pay no tuition.
If your first attempt misses 60%, the second is your last: LUT does not accept a third. Read the per-topic breakdown before rebooking. If the D is the problem on a B-or-D programme, switch to the B for the retake. If both attempts fail, the SAT and ACT routes remain open, and a strong school transcript may still clear the GPA route on its own. The one-year validity means a pass carries into the next cycle only if the dates line up, so check them before you plan a gap year around it.
