What this OMPT-C mock covers

OMPT-C has four chapters, and the three free questions cover three of them: algebra, linear formulas and geometry. Numbers is missing from the set only because it sits in the first half of the paper; it is 35% of the official OMPT-C score, the largest single weight of any chapter on any variant, so drill it anyway.

How to enter answers on the OMPT-C

OMPT-C grades the final answer with no note field. Four minutes a question is generous, and the point of the time is to check the form of your answer before you move on. The rules below are the OMPT knowledge base's, condensed.

Exact form
Unless the question asks for a decimal, the answer is a fraction, a root or a power. omptest.org's help centre says a decimal where exact form is expected can lose points, and the on-screen calculator does not convert decimals back.
Fractions
Type a slash with no spaces and reduce it: 23/14, not 1.64 and not 46/28. A mixed number is not expected.
Roots
Simplify the radicand and rationalise a denominator: 2√13 rather than √52, 2√5/25 rather than 2/(5√5). Type sqrt(13) or the √ symbol; both are read.
Powers and constants
Use the caret: x^2, 2^(x-1). Keep π and e as symbols (pi, e), never as 3.14 or 2.72.
Several solutions
Give every solution the interval allows, separated by commas, smallest first when the question says so. One of two solutions is marked incomplete.
Intervals and inequalities
Write the two-sided inequality or the interval: -1<x<4 or (-1,4). Round brackets exclude the endpoint, square brackets include it.
Decimal point
When a decimal is asked for, use a point, not a comma, and give the precision the question states.
No units
Type the number; the field knows the unit from the question. 20 and 20 m both pass here; 20 metres does not.
Brackets
Close every bracket. An unclosed bracket or a doubled operator is flagged orange on the real paper and goes to manual grading, where the grader guesses at your intent.

The calculator rules are covered in detail in our note on OMPT calculator rules; the OMPT-C uses the basic on-screen calculator shared by OMPT-A, B, C and F.

What the OMPT-C score panel shows

After the third question the panel scores you out of three, gives a percentage and lists the three chapters weakest first. With so few questions the percentage jumps in steps of 33, so read the chapter list rather than the number: one wrong in geometry means one thing, one wrong in algebra means another.

Free OMPT-C mock vs the official mock vs our full papers

For OMPT-C the official mock at €90 costs more than most candidates spend on the whole preparation, and that is worth knowing before you buy it. This free mock checks the pace and the answer format. The generation papers give the complete 30 questions and 120 minutes.

Three worked OMPT-C examples in exact-answer form

These three are not in the mock above; they show the answer form the OMPT-C field expects and the entry mistake each question invites. More are worked through in our sample questions walkthrough.

  1. OMPT-C example 1 · Numbers

    Work out (−2)³ + 3 × (−4) − (−5) without a calculator.

    1. Powers first: (−2)³ = −8, because three negatives multiply to a negative.
    2. Then the product: 3 × (−4) = −12.
    3. −8 − 12 = −20, and subtracting −5 adds 5: −20 + 5 = −15.

    Answer: −15

Entry: Type -15. The on-screen calculator does not apply the order of operations for you, so entering the line as typed gives a different number.

  2. OMPT-C example 2 · Algebra

Simplify (x² − 9)/(x² + 3x) as far as possible.

    1. Factor the top as a difference of two squares: (x − 3)(x + 3).
    2. Factor the bottom by taking out x: x(x + 3).
    3. Cancel the common factor (x + 3), leaving (x − 3)/x.

    Answer: (x − 3)/x

Entry: Type (x-3)/x with the bracket. Cancelling the x² terms directly gives −9/(3x), which is wrong: only common factors cancel, never terms.

  3. OMPT-C example 3 · Geometry

A right-angled triangle has legs of 4 and 6. Give the exact length of the hypotenuse.

    1. Pythagoras: c² = 4² + 6² = 16 + 36 = 52.
    2. c = √52. Look for a square factor: 52 = 4 × 13.
    3. c = √4 × √13 = 2√13.

    Answer: 2√13

Entry: Type 2sqrt(13). √52 is correct but not simplified, and 7.21 is a decimal where the question said exact.

After you score the OMPT-C mock

Three correct: sit the generation-1 OMPT-C paper on the clock. If that also holds, you probably do not need more than a numbers refresher before booking.

Two correct: find the chapter you dropped in the panel. Geometry on OMPT-C is Pythagoras, angles and area; the angles and radians drill covers the trigonometry-free part. Algebra slips are usually factoring, which the polynomials and factoring drill fixes.

One or none: the exponents and roots drill and the linear equations drill are the two to work first, untimed, before returning here.

Drills by topic are on the topics page; the OMPT-C generation papers start at generation 1, which carries the 27 questions you have not seen.

Free OMPT-C mock FAQ

Is the OMPT-C mock free?

The OMPT-C mock is free, unlimited and needs no account. It contains the three free preview questions of our generation-1 OMPT-C paper, which is a tenth of the 30-question sitting and the complete free exposure for this variant.

Is this the real OMPT-C test?

No. The real OMPT-C is 30 typed-answer questions in 120 minutes taken under ProctorU supervision in omptest.org's software. This page copies the four-minute pace, the exact-form answer field and the chapter order using original questions; none is a real OMPT-C item.

How is the OMPT-C mock timed?

The OMPT-C mock gives 12 minutes for three questions, the official four minutes each. The timer starts when the first question opens and runs without pause, which is how the real clock behaves after Start.

Can I retake the free OMPT-C mock?

You can retake the OMPT-C mock without limit, though the three questions stay the same. Use a retake to confirm you fixed an error; use the generation-1 OMPT-C paper for 27 questions you have not seen.

Is the mock harder than the real OMPT-C?

The free OMPT-C mock takes its questions from the harder half of our gentlest paper. omptest.org says the real OMPT-C sits at the level of its practice material, which our generation-4 OMPT-C paper reproduces. A perfect score here is a good sign, not a pass guarantee.

What does the OMPT-C score panel show?

The OMPT-C score panel gives your result out of three, the percentage and the chapters ranked weakest first, with a worked solution on every question. The official certificate from omptest.org lists a score per topic after the real test.

Are there official OMPT-C sample questions?

Official OMPT-C sample questions sit inside the paid practice material (€95) in the chapter Instructions and sample questions. omptest.org publishes no free OMPT-C sample online; this page and our sample questions walkthrough are the free routes.

More on the free sets for every variant on the free OMPT practice test page.
